I met up with Linda & Nick back in May for their engagement session. We started out in red deer and ended up in Sylvan Lake, one of my favourite places. Even thought it was May, the lake was still covered in ice and it was a little bit chilly while we were shooting. I’m super excited for Linda & Nick’s wedding next year outside of Red Deer. Here’s some of my favourite photos from their engagement session.

It’s that time of year again for all of you who are newly engaged. Yup, that’s right. It’s wedding fair time! January and February are super busy months for wedding shows. Here’s a short list of upcoming bridal-inspired events in Edmonton, Red Deer and Calgary. Even if you’ve got your wedding all planned out, going to a wedding show is kinda like a rite of passage… you’ve got to go to at least one before you get married!

Bridal Fairs can be a lot of fun but they can also be a little overwhelming! Be prepared to spend a few hours wandering around and checking out all of the vendors, you never know what you might find! There will be lots of draws to enter, so do yourself a favour and print up some labels ahead of time with your name, wedding date and e-mail address on them so you aren’t spending all of your time filling out forms. The best time to talk to vendors is during the fashion show since you aren’t competing with as many people for their attention and they’ll be able to spend more time with you. Have fun!!
If you know of other winter/spring wedding shows, please let me know!

Danielle & Dan had the best luck in having the most amazing weather for their wedding in Red Deer nearing the end of September. It pretty much felt like early August and couldn’t have been any more perfect for such awesome people. For their wedding party photos we hung out at the old water treatment plant and it was just perfect with a mix of brick and decay with gorgeous fall colours overlooking the river. I loved Danielle’s dress, it was slinky and fit her beautifully. Dan looked pretty darn awesome too! This is one of my favourite photos of them, snuggling together, and it’s just perfect in black and white!

This one is taking us back to a glorious day in July for Maria and Kevin’s outdoor wedding ceremony at Coronation Park in Red Deer. I love outdoor ceremonies, I just don’t get to photograph them enough. There’s always lots of light, and lots of space to run around for different angles, and I don’t have to worry about my shoes squeaking on the grass The weather was just fabulous with a little bit of cloud cover for the ceremony in the park. After the ceremony we stayed around in the park for some family photos and few of the wedding party before heading over to the most amazing building in Red Deer, which just so happened to be home to an accounting firm. I love finding unique locations, and I’m willing to bet that Maria and Kevin were the first to have their wedding photos at that gorgeous building. Lucky we were there and they were so nice to let us come inside when the sky darkened and Red Deer was pummeled with hail! After the hail let up, we ended the photos at the old train bridge before going to the reception to grab some details at the Black Knight Inn. Luckily, the crazy weather passed quickly so the drive back to Edmonton in anticipation the next days’ wedding went smoothly.
So, you think it’s funny to show cans of OFF!… i think the OFF! was a guest at about 90% of my weddings this past year… it was a bad time for mosquitos in AB!
Almost a month has passed since Shelley & Bernie’s intimate wedding in Red Deer. It was a lovely day to for two fabulous people to get married. The ceremony and reception were in Botanica at the Red Deer Lodge so we popped across the street to do photos in the nearby park. Here’s one of my favourites from the day!
