Hot summer wedding in Sherwood Park with Tracey and Marek

Saturday, June 12, 2010 found me in Sherwood Park, AB for Tracey and Marek’s daisy themed wedding on a super warm summer day. The Ceremony and Recption took place at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, with the reception in the hall underneath the church. We headed East with a very large wedding party to do the “formal” shots on a side road, pretty much in the middle of nowhere! At least we didn’t have to worry about other bridal parties being in the way since we had the place to ourselves, just with the occasional visit from the locals driving through! The reception was a great time and it the evening kicked off with a traditional Polish Bread & Salt blessing and also the vodka/water shots to determine who get’s to “wear the pants” in the house… Tracey got the vodka shot!

Congratulations to Tracey and Marek!

Rockin’ the Dress with Molly Minx of the Hook ‘Em Revue in Edmonton, AB

Yesterday found me shooting a super sassy burlesque dancer named Molly Minx. She was amazing in front of camera and just knew what to do! I think the dancing and performing burlesque really helped! We shot just down the road from the Matrix Hotel where a building was torn down and there was a great pile of bricks and a big hole in the ground. We then went West and took advantage of an awesome truck that was shot up and grafitti-ized (I know that’s not a real word) to awesomeness! It got super cold so we came back to the studio and shot a little in the alley before calling it quits. I’m still in love with the gorgeous flowers from The Wild Orchid! It’s fantastic when you can tell your florist your budget, the colours, and let them run wild with it… and it turns in to pure gorgeousness!

Anyway, here’s some shots from yesterday… I know it’s going to make you want to wear your wedding dress again for your own Rock the Dress shoot, and I will be more than happy to make you look just as awesome!

Saturday’s Studio progress!

Oh my gosh today was a ridiculously long day! It all started with a flurry of phone calls from Home Depot’s delivery dept who were there at 7:45 am to deliver! I had no idea they would be even working that early on a Saturday, so of course I was still at home when the calls started coming. I flew out of the house and headed downtown to figure out how to get this monster truck into the service area behind the building. Thanks City of Edmonton for having such low flying wires in the back so the truck could’t come through. The Mega truck parked finally and then transferred everything via forklift, so, luckiliy, crisis was averted.

Then I headed off for my first trip to Home Depot of the day to buy insulation (I would prefer not to hear the neighbours, thanks), more door moulding and various other bits and pieces. Went back to the space, dropped it all off and then went on the hunt for flooring. I wasn’t able to find the first pick anywhere in stock, and I’m still a little disappointed, but managed to find something pretty and shiny that will do the trick nonetheless. 23 boxes of flooring, 11 rolls of underlay, 7 outside corner pieces, and more misc items later, I found myself heading back toward the space to drop off another fun bundles of wallet-draining supplies.

While I was gallavanting around to Home Depot, the insulation and drywall was put up and things are starting to look a lot less sketchy! Turns out I went a little crazy and bought too much drywall and insulation, so hopefully I can return that in the next few days. I wandered off again, now to plan the furniture I need to buy, but didn’t get much accomplished there, and then found myself back the space with Mom in tow to give her a tour. Finally we locked things down there, went to visit my nieces for a little bit before heading to, you guessed it, Home Depot, for the third time that day where I purchased a ton of paint and random bits and things. Now I am home, after a short stop for an Iced Chai Latte at my favourite Starbucks before dragging my carcass home to my hunny Derek.  Now, once I climb the stairs from my home basement, date night with my darling begins… until I pass out and then back at the space again tomorrow…

Here’s a few photos of where we are from today.

ENV everywhere! It’s a wedding blog takeover!

This has been a great week! Met with my contractor today to get the work on the studio started. Well, showed them around they are gonna give me the estimate, but I know they will be he ones doing the work. The stairs at the space are under construction too, so I should be able to plan the open house to happen in a month or so!  Also finally got a paycheque from my new job that I can now spend on cool stuff for the studio!

The other awesome news is that 2 of my weddings/bridal shoots have made appearances on some pretty big wedding websites! The Rock the Dress session with Amanda debuted on OneWed.com, check it out here: http://www.onewed.com/blog/savvy-scoop/2010/03/26/retro-rock-dress-bridal-shoot-pretty-meets-gritty

Also super exciting, and we’ve been waiting a while for this one to show up, but Erin & Tyler’s gorgeous wedding is now featured on Wedding Bells in the Real Weddings section! Check out their story here: http://www.weddingbells.ca/articles/slideshow/cut-above/

That’s right, I am slowly taking over the wedding world! Yup, am sighing contentedly…

The journey toward the ENV Studio!

Tomorrow is going to be a very exciting day! Why you ask? Because I get the keys to my very first studio space! It’s a diamond in the rough, but it’s mine and it will be perfect! Seeing that I am a photographer, I thought it would make sense to photograph the renovation journey turning a big rectangle in the basement in an old building into my super slick new studio space! Since I don’t yet have the keys, I don’t have a photo to show of the “before”, I will nab a few shots tomorrow and then we get to watch it transform!

Here’s the floor plan that I’ve been playing with:

STUDIO LAYOUT uncategorized
One side will be a fully equipped studio with lights, backdrops, seamless paper, etc (and will be available to rent on an hourly and daily basis, e-mail me if you are interested in renting) and the other side, separated by a beam and curtains will be my workspace and the conference area for meetings, etc.

The whole space will be painted out white, including the concrete floors. The furniture will be mainly white and chrome with a few black pieces as well. The most exciting part will be the back wall that will be painted green (and hidden from the studio so to not give a colour cast). The awesome green wall colour is “green crush” from Behr.

Also excited about the green shag area rugs too! Well, that’s my vision at least, we’ll see if the end product turns out as I plan, or if I will change my mind a million times along the way!

Hope you join me on my journey and give me your thoughts on the projects progression! Can’t wait for tomorrow!

Oh, and don’t worry, once it’s all done, watch for the open house!
