After rushing back from Mikaela & Bob’s Banff wedding the day before, I got to photograph a second amazing wedding with Sharla & Will that all took place in Sharla’s parents’ amazing backyard! I met up with the girls at the house to shoot the details and to hang out while they were getting dressed and couldn’t help but sneak over to check out the progress in the backyard every so often… it was beautiful out there! It couldn’t have been a more perfect day for an outdoor wedding and in front of the gazebo was the perfect place to get married. The set up was beautiful and I loved the purple flowers lining the aisle. When Sharla stepped through the draping to begin her walk down the aisle, I was in awe of how perfect she looked and I’m pretty sure Will agreed! After the gorgeous ceremony we headed to the Devon River to do some photos before taking a short detour (what’s with knocking down old buildings and not telling me??) we headed back to the family property to have more photos and to play with a pretty fantastic car and Sharla & Will’s motorcycles. After that, it was a quick trip around the house to the reception set up in a beautiful tent and was decorated just perfectly! It was a great evening and we ended it for a little slightly drunken photo session back in the gazebo in the dark… I love shooting at night!! I’m so happy I got to be the one to photograph this wedding! Congratulations Sharla & Will!

I think Baby’s Breath is going to make a comeback for 2013! It’s a simple flower but it’s just beautiful in a bouquet all on it’s own! It would make a great bouquet for the bride (just make it three times bigger!) or it would be perfect for your bridesmaids to carry! Not to mention vases full of Baby’s breath on your tables and for the aisle, perfect!!
Bouquet designed by The Wild Orchid Flower Shop in downtown Edmonton, AB. Featured at the Wild Orchid’s booth at Bridal Fantasy 2013.

June has been an interesting month for Edmonton wedding photographers battling with unpredictable weather and lots of rain. This past Friday I joined Chantel & Matt for their lovely wedding at the Country Lodge which is on the edge of the city in Edmonton. The Country Lodge has a very warm and rustic feel and is quite cozy inside. There’s a pretty spot for outdoor wedding ceremonies too. It had been a few years since I had photographed a wedding at the Country Lodge (All the way to back to 2009 for Chris & Lexie’s wedding actually!) and boy had things changed around there. The venue used to be surrounded by fields and forests and I had a quite a surprise when I arrived finding it was basically right beside the new highway… although we still managed to find some pretty spots to tuck into for photos even after all that rain earlier in the day. It pretty much poured until about 15 minutes before the ceremony started… whew, we were lucky! It just took a quick wipe down of the chairs and we were set for the outdoor ceremony.
This is one of my favourite photos from Chantel & Matt’s “formal” photo session before we all wilted from the sun that finally came out. It’s just a little trail off of the side of the road with pretty light that was just perfect for this photo. You can’t tell… but at this point Chantel had kicked off her shoes and was going barefoot

Next weekend is looking to be an exciting one! I’m heading off to Banff to photograph Patti & Raj’s engagement session and will be a guest at Susan and Krister’s wedding at the Banff Springs! So excited! I’ve only ever attended one other wedding as a guest, so this will be a fun experience… yes, I will be bringing cameras and I really hope I don’t annoy the awesome photographer that they’ve hired by getting in the way too much!
So, since I’m in Banff for the wekeend and it’s so darn gorgeous, I’d love to do a few photo sessions while I’m there. So, get in touch if you are looking for family photos, an engagement session, a Rock the Dress session, or whatever!! E-mail info@elizabethvanderbij.com for pricing and availibility!!
