ENV everywhere! It’s a wedding blog takeover!

Monday, March 29th, 2010

This has been a great week! Met with my contractor today to get the work on the studio started. Well, showed them around they are gonna give me the estimate, but I know they will be he ones doing the work. The stairs at the space are under construction too, so I should be able to plan the open house to happen in a month or so!  Also finally got a paycheque from my new job that I can now spend on cool stuff for the studio!

The other awesome news is that 2 of my weddings/bridal shoots have made appearances on some pretty big wedding websites! The Rock the Dress session with Amanda debuted on OneWed.com, check it out here: http://www.onewed.com/blog/savvy-scoop/2010/03/26/retro-rock-dress-bridal-shoot-pretty-meets-gritty

Also super exciting, and we’ve been waiting a while for this one to show up, but Erin & Tyler’s gorgeous wedding is now featured on Wedding Bells in the Real Weddings section! Check out their story here: http://www.weddingbells.ca/articles/slideshow/cut-above/

That’s right, I am slowly taking over the wedding world! Yup, am sighing contentedly…

Rockin’ the Dress with Amanda – Downtown Edmonton Bridal Shoot

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

I was pretty excited for today! My lovely model Amanda is actually a photographer as well (www.lightsidephoto.com) and she was a joy to photograph! I think she does as well in front of the camera as she does behind it! Me, on the other hand, I definitely belong behind the camera and nowhere near the front of it, and I’m ok with that! We were also joined today by Harvey of Love Bucket Photography and his brother Steven. They were awesome on helping out with some of the lighting and they were shooting too. The other exciting part of today is that I went and signed the lease for my new studio space downtown! I’m super excited for it! It’s on 105 St and Jasper Ave, coincidentilly, that’s where we also went to get Amanda’s hair done by my good friend Patricia who is a goddess of hair and she works at Celebrity Hair, which is my new upstairs neighbour! I stopped next door to arrange for flowers the shoot and procured the most amazing bouquet from The Wild Orchid! I think I love my new neighbours already!

So anyway, back to the awesome photos! We shot in the alley behind the salon, then just down the street in front of an empty building, then went back to the salon to warm up and then went down to the basement by my favourite elevator ever (yes, I think we will see lots more of it!) before heading off to an old garage at 118 Ave and 97 St to finish up the day. I’m super happy about the images, and I’m looking forward to wedding season starting to shoot even more fabulous brides and grooms!

Rockin’ the Dress with Kiki – 95th St, Edmonton

Sunday, March 7th, 2010

As you may or may not know, I have a small obsession with shopping on eBay. Lately, I’ve been buying wedding dresses. I just can’t pass up a good deal. So, with the collection of dresses I have amassed, I decided I had to put them to good use. I’ve been wanting to show the possibilities of what wedding photography can be, and Rock the Dress sessions are a useful way to do that. Sometimes it’s just not possible to get to do everything you want on your wedding day with time constraints, not wanting to get messy, etc. so a Rock the Dress session is a great way to get to wear your dress again and have a fantastic photo shoot. It’s also a great opportunity to get fabulous shots of you and your honey in your wedding attire if you were disappointed with your wedding day photos.

I met with Kiki yesterday, I had found her on Model Mayhem, and if anyone is in need of a fantastic model, check her out! I’m already dreaming up new schemes to photograph her again! Here’s her profile: http://www.modelmayhem.com/1111085

We first headed out to the old Edmonton Spring Works building on Jasper and 95th. I really love this spot! The area was a little busy, especially with the crazy traffic at the grocery store next door. After working around the building, we headed North a few blocks to where the LRT heads undergorund on 95th St to enjoy the awesome grafitti on the tunnel. Both spots are totally unconventional, but yielded amazing images! Always fun to have a few accessories, and I’m really enjoying balloons and a long stretch of veil to blow in the wind. I’m also in love with the orange orchids in the bouquet, and very thankful to girl at Flowers by Merle who put it together for me at the last minute!

Here’s just a few of one of my new favourite shoots, and if you’d like to see more, check out the gallery on Facebook!

Rockin’ the Dress with Patricia – Elevator and scary boiler room session in Edmonton

Sunday, January 10th, 2010

I met up with my friend Patricia today to check out the basement of the salon where she works (Celebrity Hair on 105 St and Jasper, you should go see her because she is awesome!) and we did a little Rock the Dress session. It’s fun to experiment with lighting and non-traditional locations. The elevator in the building is just awesome with old scuffed hardwood floors, wood grate and brick walls surrounding. Patricia worked a pretty traditional looking dress, but the photos are far from traditional! We had some fun with a big chunk of tulle that looks awesome in the photos! We ended he session in the very scary pitch black boiler room. The only light in there was the flashlight that I was using to light the session. It was so quiet and creepy down there and then every so often the boiler would roar to life! Was scary, but totally worth it because look at how awesome the photos are!

Just a reminder that you don’t need a pretty building and trees and flowers to take awesome wedding photos!

Rockin’ the Dress with Cara in Edmonton!

Monday, August 10th, 2009

This past week I had an awesome Rock the Dress session with Cara who was married just about two months ago. A gorgeous bride to start with, but boy was her dress hot! We shot in some alleys around Whyte Ave and Jasper Ave, and small hill in the river valley. I loved her red shoes and the strap detailing on her dress, and I am ever so thankful of the lovely ladies at Best Buds in Oliver Square who put together this awesome yellow, pink and white bouquet for me on very short notice!
