ENV everywhere! It’s a wedding blog takeover!

Monday, March 29th, 2010

This has been a great week! Met with my contractor today to get the work on the studio started. Well, showed them around they are gonna give me the estimate, but I know they will be he ones doing the work. The stairs at the space are under construction too, so I should be able to plan the open house to happen in a month or so!  Also finally got a paycheque from my new job that I can now spend on cool stuff for the studio!

The other awesome news is that 2 of my weddings/bridal shoots have made appearances on some pretty big wedding websites! The Rock the Dress session with Amanda debuted on OneWed.com, check it out here: http://www.onewed.com/blog/savvy-scoop/2010/03/26/retro-rock-dress-bridal-shoot-pretty-meets-gritty

Also super exciting, and we’ve been waiting a while for this one to show up, but Erin & Tyler’s gorgeous wedding is now featured on Wedding Bells in the Real Weddings section! Check out their story here: http://www.weddingbells.ca/articles/slideshow/cut-above/

That’s right, I am slowly taking over the wedding world! Yup, am sighing contentedly…

Got the keys! The studio “before” pictures!

The birth of the ENV Photography Studio!

I got the keys today! Woohoo! Also found out that the new stairs are being installed much sooner than expected, so will have way easier access from street level. That’s gonna make it be way easier for the open house once everything is done.

Here’s a few shots to show the space in it’s current state. Honestly, it’s nothing pretty to look at right now, but it has great potential. I’m looking forward to documenting the transformation through renos. There will be a lot of work, and it’ll probably take a month to get set up, but it will be worth it! I know it! Will paint out the concrete walls, need to drywall over the metal studs, tearing up the carpet and painting out the concrete floors, painting the ceiling to a certain degree, but going to leave it pretty rough looking with the pipes and beams exposed. I think my original layout plan has already changed a little! Here we go!

The journey toward the ENV Studio!

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

Tomorrow is going to be a very exciting day! Why you ask? Because I get the keys to my very first studio space! It’s a diamond in the rough, but it’s mine and it will be perfect! Seeing that I am a photographer, I thought it would make sense to photograph the renovation journey turning a big rectangle in the basement in an old building into my super slick new studio space! Since I don’t yet have the keys, I don’t have a photo to show of the “before”, I will nab a few shots tomorrow and then we get to watch it transform!

Here’s the floor plan that I’ve been playing with:

STUDIO LAYOUT uncategorized One side will be a fully equipped studio with lights, backdrops, seamless paper, etc (and will be available to rent on an hourly and daily basis, e-mail me if you are interested in renting) and the other side, separated by a beam and curtains will be my workspace and the conference area for meetings, etc.

The whole space will be painted out white, including the concrete floors. The furniture will be mainly white and chrome with a few black pieces as well. The most exciting part will be the back wall that will be painted green (and hidden from the studio so to not give a colour cast). The awesome green wall colour is “green crush” from Behr.

Also excited about the green shag area rugs too! Well, that’s my vision at least, we’ll see if the end product turns out as I plan, or if I will change my mind a million times along the way!

Hope you join me on my journey and give me your thoughts on the projects progression! Can’t wait for tomorrow!

Oh, and don’t worry, once it’s all done, watch for the open house!

Newborn session – Welcome to the world baby Arianna!

Sunday, March 21st, 2010

Friday night (well, technically Saturday morning) found me at the Royal Alex eagerly awaiting the arrival of my niece Arianna. At 5:09 am she catapulted into the world, and after giving her a little while to adjust and get cleaned up, it was time for her very first photo session! Mommy and Daddy were absolutely smitten with her tiny perfection! She did great considering she’d only been in the world for about 30 minutes!

A few tips on getting ready…

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

Juli at A Modern Proposal has a really useful post with some things to keep in mind when getting ready on your big day! Check out her advice on the wedding planning blog

I’ll also chime in on why I like to photograph the bride and groom getting ready. I love photographing the bride in her last hours before getting wed because it is such an emotionally-charged time! She is surrounded by her loved ones, looking her absolute best, and you can just feel the joy and anticipation! There’s almost always tears when Daddy sees his little girl all dressed up! It’s not that often that you get the chance to be so close to such raw emotion. And I do have to admit, I also enjoy this time because I get to take pretty photos of dresses, and flowers, and details icon wink edmonton weddings

I like photographing the guys for entirely different reasons. I think it’s more of a novelty for me when I do get to do it because it is so fun and relaxed! It’s really just like hanging out on any regular day, watching the guys be goofy, play video games, have a few drinks, and then in a matter of minutes, they transform before your eyes into something spectacular! It’s also fun watching (and giggling to myself) the guys try to pin boutonnières on each other without getting stabbed!
