Yesterday afternoon I met up with Monica on the chilly streets of Edmonton outside of La Piazza Dasee near Whyte Ave. to take some photos for her newly revamped website. Monica is a WPIC certified wedding and event planner, check out her site if you are in the market for an awesome wedding planner. We’d been chatting over e-mail for the past few weeks prior to the shoot, but yesterday was the first day we met and I liked her right away! She was so much fun and very easy going, not to mention gosh darned adorable as you can see from her photos! We spent a little time outside catching the last remaining rays of the day before ducking into La Piazza Dasee to warm up. They have an awesome cafe area that I didn’t know about, and I just may deviate from Starbucks every so often to go back there!

Here’s a few of images Monica and be sure to go check out her website at www.aisleplanyourday.com!

Friday afternoon found me on the road, headed East, for my first foray into Saskatchewan for the weekend. My destination was Humboldt, SK for the No Limits: North workshop that was being hosted there. The drive was an interesting one, in that the roads were so straight and flat that I found myself easily going 160 kmph while singing along to to The Crack at the top of my lungs since I had no one to talk to.

I arrived in Humboldt Friday night, somewhere around 7:30 and totally forgot about the time difference, so it was actually an hour later, and I cruised around town, but couldn’t find much going on so just went to the Inn and crashed. I must admit, I’m not fond of sleeping places without my Derek and the 4 furballs, so didn’t sleep so well. Saturday morning came too early and I was up at my equivalent of 6 am to head to Imagin Photography (the Studio where everything was taking place) for 8 am (well, they called it 9, but not in my head) where I was joined by 15 others to learn from Mike Long and Andy Armstrong about pin-ups, fashion, glamour and boudoir photography. We each got to shoot a little with a model each day and learned about light, posing and post-processing.

At the end of the two days, I headed off to Saskatoon to spend the night before arriving home today after a very snowy drive. Here’s a few shots of one of the lovely models, I will show some of the pin-up stuff once I’ve finished working on it.

This past Sunday was the hugely popular Bridal Fantasy wedding fair in Edmonton at Northlands. I didn’t have a booth this year, but I went with Tammy of TiAmo Photography to check things out and to get a better feel of what works at a bridal show in anticipation for our (separate) booths at Love Story Expo in Spruce Grove next September. What’s funny is that when I was planning my wedding, I never went to a bridal show, and now I check them out all the time!

There were lots of great booths this year, but there were a few booths and companies that really got my attention for several reasons. Here’s a list of wedding vendors to check out if you haven’t already! (no particular order)

TU Gallery – Gorgeous custom frames for those fabulous wedding photos (also have awesome furniture and art work too).

Little Black Book Inc. – These ladies(event planners)had the most beautiful and memorable business cards and my favourite table set-up of the whole wedding fair. They have captured my heart with their stunning style.

ID Bohemia – They had the coolest looking booth! It was really something to look at! Although, it did take me a little while to figure out if they were photographers or event planners – turns out they are planners!

A Chair to Remember – Beautiful decor that popped up in quite a few very pretty booths.Really nice chair and table covering options!

Wild Orchid Flower Shop- Wow! They had the most gorgeous floral displays! Tammy and I both loved the collection with the Monarch butterflies! I couldn’t stop looking at their gorgeous flowers! Also didn’t hurt that the ladies working the booth were really friendly too!

Marlow & Richards Florist – Breathtaking centrepieces. Gorgeous and grand in scale! Loved them!

Rooy Couture – Awesome local dress designer! Had dresses that I would love to photograph and are so unique!

In Motion Style Group – Mobile make-up and hair! Ideal for weddings and boudoir marathons!

Cake Couture – Had really awesome cake designs!

Lots of other great booths, but I had to admit, I got a little overwhelmed and can’t remember everything I saw!!

A little bit giddy!

Ok, so I am dorking out a little, but I’m just so excited! I just got accepted to the AGWPJA and the WPJA! Now, i’m sure that doesn’t really mean anything to most people, but they are associations of really awesome photographers! The first time I applied last year, I wasn’t up to par and didn’t get a response so I waited, and practiced some more, and got better and just re-applied in December 2009. I got an e-mail over the weekend and have been accepted! Woohoo!

I got in just in time to send in some images for the last of the 2009 contests, so off I go to pick those out to send!

In the meantime, go check out all the amazing photographers on the sites!

I met up with my friend Patricia today to check out the basement of the salon where she works (Celebrity Hair on 105 St and Jasper, you should go see her because she is awesome!) and we did a little Rock the Dress session. It’s fun to experiment with lighting and non-traditional locations. The elevator in the building is just awesome with old scuffed hardwood floors, wood grate and brick walls surrounding. Patricia worked a pretty traditional looking dress, but the photos are far from traditional! We had some fun with a big chunk of tulle that looks awesome in the photos! We ended he session in the very scary pitch black boiler room. The only light in there was the flashlight that I was using to light the session. It was so quiet and creepy down there and then every so often the boiler would roar to life! Was scary, but totally worth it because look at how awesome the photos are! Just a reminder that you don’t need a pretty building and trees and flowers to take awesome wedding photos!

Yesterday I met up with Lisa and Greg for their engagement session. We were supposed to have gotten together over the holidays, but things didn’t work out. That’s fortunate though, because it got to be +3 degrees yesterday! Warm in January rather than the -20 that was when we were first going to try! We met just North of Whyte Ave and worked the area. We had a pretty sketchy audience, especially when I was doing the ring shots. Luckily the police decided to come by and chat the guy up! I’m so looking forward to Lisa & Greg’s wedding in May! They are just adorable together!

So this one is a bit of a personal post, but not too personal! My hunny got the great idea for us to Spend New Year’s Eve in Calgary just so we could have an excuse to get out of Edmonton. Being the princess that I am, I had no intention of sleeping on someone’s couch, so I promptly booked us a room at the Marriott downtown Calgary. The drive there was a bit on the long side… 4.5 hours from Edmonton to Calgary… can you say crappy roads? Was snowy and icy and bloody cold out! We finally made it, checked in and went for a swim with three unsupervised obnoxious boys. The swim did not last long (see the three obnoxious children above – blowing your nose into the pool is NOT ok!!).

I don’t think I will fill in the details of the visit to the rooms of our friends here and what trouble was going on there – i’m still surpised they didn’t get kicked out in the middle of the night.

So, the big event of the night was going to the Distillery to see the Dwarves. The even bigger event of the night was the Masked Naked Man….no, i won’t be posting that video here… but here’s a few shots of The Dwarves!

The last while has been busy, but we finally got some time to relax on Christmas Day. We had family over for Christmas dinner (and I made a pretty darn yummy turkey, if I do say so myself!). Through out the day I was trying my darnedest to take photos of all four darling kitties sitting together… no such luck! Sunny and Klaus, of course, were willing to snuggle together and cute it up for the camera! I eventually caught Olaf when he was feeling sleepy and he decided to comply. Princess Violet, on the other hand, wanted none of it! Refused to look at me, but she’s cute anyway! My niece Bella took a page out of the Violet book and did her best not to look at me either, but I got a couple to send off to the grandparents anyway! Looking forward to photographing Candy Cane Lane this week… at least I know the houses will look at me when I tell them to! Happy Holidays!

I’ve actually been taking a little break for the past while to get caught up, so I haven’t touched my cameras in over a month! I went out Friday night, and after a change of plans, I thought it would be fun to shoot some Christmas lights and a few nighttime cityscapes. Well, with it being as cold as it was… I chickened out and didn’t last long. In fact, I didn’t even get out of the Jeep when I took a quick shot of City Hall before heading home to snuggle up in the blankets. I think I will wait until it warms up again (please, oh please warm up soon!) before I venture out to try again.
